A) LIGHT DUTY VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT COMPRESSOR FOR CAR AIR CONDITIONING

(Indian Patent Application No- 613/KOL/2009 dated 13/04/2009)

For car air conditioning, engine power requirements for variable displacement compressor is less than fixed displacement compressor as flow of refrigerant can be varied as per cooling demands. So, it will save automotive fuel and environment.

The mechanism of newly designed variable displacement compressor is less complicated than other compressors of this category and cheap as well.

PRESENT STATUS

Detailed engineering design is completed. Patent has been filled in India. Prototype will be shortly available by the use of fund recently granted by Dept. of Scientific & Industrial Research, Govt. of India, through Technopreneur Promotion Programme.

MARKET

Yet this type of compressor not manufactured in our country so, it is expected that the product will capture a wide market in India. Besides of India, marketing of this product will be expected in developed countries where use of variable displacement compressor in car air conditioner is a common practice.

MAJOR SUPPORTS REQUIRED

1. Marketing support.

2. Financial support for mass production

COMMON PROCESS OF MASS PRODUCTION:

Components will be manufactured mainly through machining, casting and drop forging processes. Components will be made from carbon steel and thereafter will be heat-treated. At final stage, chrome plating will be done both for surface hardening and smooth bright finished surface. Few components will be arranged from outsource by placing order.

1. Compressor Cylinders: Cast compressor cylinders and cylinder heads will be manufactured by molding process. Thereafter stainless steel liner will be pressed inside of cylinder.

2. Pistons and Piston Rods: Drop forged.

3. Compressor Inlet and Discharge Valves: To arrange from outsource.

4. Driving Disc: Through machining by lathe, thereafter heat treatment operation required and at last stage both surface hardening and surface finishing will be done by chromium plating. Seating grooves will be arranged in the disc to insert seats for ball end of piston rods and ball end of central column.

5. Driving Arm: Drop forged.

6. Driveshaft: Drop forged.

7. Pressure and Guide Rolls: Drop forged.

8. Central Column: Drop forged.

9. Control Link: Drop forged.

10. Control Sleeve: Drop forged.

11. Stroke Control Disc: Will be produced by lathe machine. Threaded tapped holes are to be formed in attached bar portion to provide servo piston rod attachment. Heat treatment and chrome finishing will be required thereafter.

12. Link Pins and Bushes: To manage from outsource.

13. Base Plate: Through machining process in lathe. Thereafter will be heat treated and chrome plated.

14. Compressor Casing: To be fabricated from 0.3cm thick stainless steel sheet by shear cutting, bending and welding. Casing is fitted with pump base plate by flange joint. Sleeve bearing halves are enclosed the driveshaft just below the shaft coupling.

B) REGENERATIVE BRAKE SYSTEM OF BICYCLE

(Indian Patent Application No- 1205 / KOL / 2007)

In the mechanism, kinetic energy of the bicycle is captured during braking and this stored energy is released either just after braking later as desired by the rider to move the bicycle forward.

Proposed system is designed for rear brake. Stopping distance of 90kg weight bicycle is selected 2.5mts at a speed of 12kmph by the application of rear brake.

The new design is most compact with minimum essential components, more convenient and user’s friendly than other existing designs. In this new mechanism, it is possible to retain the stored energy in springs even after release of brake when rider wants to keep the bicycle in rest position after braking. Later he can use this stored energy when he again wants to start cycling. This necessary provision is not arranged in other existing regenerative brake systems.

PRESENT STATUS

Detailed engineering design is completed of this innovation. Patent application is filled (Indian Patent Application No- 1205 / KOL / 2007).

MARKET

A wide market is expected as the mechanism will relieve the rider from strenuous effort to be frequently applied presently to accelerate the bicycle after braking operation. The most favorable situation is that, yet bicycle manufacturers in our country are not manufacturing bicycle with regenerative brake mechanism. Besides of our India, China may be the biggest buyer of this bicycle equipped with new brake system because, people of china are the highest user of bicycle in the world.

MAJOR SUPPOTS REQUIRED

1. Prototype development.

2. Testing of developed product.

3. Financial support for mass production.

4. Marketing support.

COMMON PROCESS OF MASS PRODUCTION:

During mass production, most of the components of bicycle readily available in market are to be procured. Some components are to be manufactured from different manufactures by placing orders. Thereafter, in own manufacturing cum assembly unit, some other components will be manufactured. Besides, in own assembly workshop, necessary change, alternation and modifications of few components of the conventional bicycle are to be completed to convert a typical bicycle brake system into regenerative brake system.
