Indians prefer water to toilet paper. Presently people find out affordance of other utility products available during journey (mineral water bottles, tea/coffee cups etc. which are primarily made from plastic) and slightly modify it to use for washing after defecation. Disposal of such products create a nuisance in and around the train as well as the railway tracks.
However, my mug disintegrates within about 15 minutes after use. The mug is foldable and occupies insignificant space of ones luggage. It easily fits into ones pocket!

Academic Projects at National Institute of Design:

Design project 1: Simple Product Design

I have designed 'nariyal patta', a kitchen accessory which makes its presence felt when you are looking for a place to crack a coconut. It holds ail that mess that you would have otherwise created if you were cracking it on the kitchen table or floor or wherever in the house you felt like. It reduces the psychological stress which you undergo if you'
were using a cleaver to crack a coconut. .
In other words its easy, safe and not messy!
I have applied for a patent for the same.

Design project 2: Display and Control

In my version of microwave oven, I have been able to simplify the task, made it error
free operation and proper audio-visual feedback has been provided.
I have proposed a 'visually analog' digital timer.

Design project 3: Technically Complex Project

Redesign of pop-up toaster.

Unlike conventional toasters, "KRIS" incorporates an hybrid temperature + time controller that ensures desired crispness for every slice of toast.

The auto defrost facility thaws refrigerated bread
before toasting it.
The easy removal of toast is facilitated by the angular slot which provides more surface area to pinch it out.
The push button operation makes the bread carriage mechanism smooth.
The crumb tray drops down and can be easily
cleaned.

Design project 4: Systems design

Study of unorganised food vending services revealed that there are areas where design intervention is not suggested. The reason being : the hawker should be allowed to make his own unique presence felt.
Delving into systems parameters like perceived performances, product differentiation and to certain extent aesthetics will only kill the innovative strategies which the hawkers come up with from time to time.
I have worked on the hygiene and ergonomic issues related to the system.

Diploma project : 90deg.

Premium range of modular switches and accessories for GM Modular Pvt. Ltd. , Mumbai

90deg. - as I would like to call it is a manifestation of my imagination : transformed with manufacturing / production aids.
Understanding the product usage environment was of utmost importance, which finally led to the concept of 90deg. rotational possibility of the complete switch-plate assembly.
Directional element of asymmetrical forms was thoroughly explored.
A re-visit at the usage pattern was felt necessary while dealing with accessories and the related issues were resolved through innovative mechanical design.

--------------------------------------------------

Ergonomics:

1. Study of behavioral patterns of arthritic patients in home environment. (2003)

2. Study of institutional mess kitchen environment. (2004)

3. Interior space design of industrial design studio at LG Electronics Pvt. Ltd. (2005)

--------------------------------------------------

Software proficiency:

Adobe Photoshop 7 ;Corell 12 ; Adobe Illustrator 10 ; Rhinoceros 3.0 ; Uni-Graphics; MS Power Point
