Papyrus - The Paper Presentation Contest

Problem statement
This is the technical paper presentation contest that invites entries from students for their own original innovative papers or reviews on state-of-the-art technologies. The event provides a platform to the budding innovators to showcase their talent. The entries are judged on parameters like methodology & depth of research of the topic selected and also the relevance, & scope of the topic selected.

Deadlines
Submission of Abstract - 14th February 2009
Submission of Full Length Manuscript - 17th February 2009, 8.00 pm
Presentation - 25th February 2009 at DCE Campus

The competition consists of two categories
1. Group A : Mechanical, Production and Industrial Engineering.
2. Group B : Civil and Environmental Engineering.

General Rules
1. Graduate or undergraduate students may participate in the competition.
2. The maximum number of members allowed per team is 3.
3. A team can present a paper in only one of the two categories.
4. One team can present only one paper.

Last date for submission of abstract: 14th February.

General Overview
1. The abstract should give a clear indication of the objective, scope, and results of the paper. The length of the abstract should not be more than 350 words. The title page of abstract must contain the name of the members as on their college I-cards, name of the college(s) to which the members belong, a common email address and contact number.
2. Only the abstracts that are submitted by 14th February, 2009, shall be eligible for further consideration. The title should be: Group X: Title of Paper (X stands for A or B). The abstract should be uploaded as a MS Word document.
3. Teams whose abstracts are selected will be notified by email.
4. The selected teams will have to submit Full Length Manuscripts in MS Word Format. It must reach us by February 17, 2009.
5. Each team should bring four printed copies of the paper to be presented, on the day of the contest. The contents of the paper should be printed only on one side of A4 size sheets.

Full Length Paper Format
1. The paper should have a title page, abstract, main text, conclusion and appendices. The main body of text must be typed single-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font and be no more than 8 pages. Suitable font sizes can be adopted for headings and sub-headings. Only text directly related to the item being presented and any accompanying illustrations, tables, figures, etc., will count toward the 9- page limit. Title page and appendices shall not be counted toward the limit
2. The title page of the paper must contain the title of the paper, name of the members as on their college I-cards, name of the college(s) to which the members belong, a common email address and contact number.
3. All papers shall have a bibliography/references page and appropriate footnotes. The author should check that the text references and the reference list are in complete agreement as regards dates and spelling of names. Papers omitting bibliography/references or using plagiarized material will be automatically disqualified..

Presentation
1. Each entrant must formally present his or her paper at the conference in the form of power point presentation. Presentations must be no longer than 10 minutes.
2. A 5-minute question-and-answer period will follow the presentation of the paper. Questions may be posed by judges and/or students attending the presentation.
3. Presentations should be accompanied by visual aids. An overhead computer interfaced projector will be available in the contest hall.
4. The decision of the organizers and judges shall be final and binding on all the participants

General Tips regarding the visual aid
1. Use graphics, schematic diagrams, and figures to make the presentation effective. Keep the text to the minimum possible.
2. Size of lettering and clarity of presentation materials are important. For letter size, we recommend Times New Roman with font size 24 points or larger.

2. Participation certificates would be awarded to the scholars who are shortlisted for the presentation.
