TePP along with its network partners provides grants and mentoring to independent innovators to emerge as entrepreneurs by incubating their ideas and enterprise in two phases. Till now over 200 innovations have been facilitated, the support is given in the form of grant-in-aid. The innovator retains right over technology and IP. All outreach centers provide counseling and mentoring, some provide incubation.

TePP is a common programme of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and The Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) (DST).

TePP now invites proposals on the following:

Micro Technopreneurship Support(TS)

Any independent innovator testing radically (Max support Rs 0.75 lakhs) new ideas with computer generated models.

TePP Project Fund (TPF)

Any independent innovator/ start-up firm for (Max support Rs 15 lakhs) developing function proving prototypes.

• Faculty research and student projects are not supported under TePP, but faculty start-ups and student entrepreneurs are eligible provided they possess technology commercialization rights.
• dot.com start-ups are not supported under TePP but start-ups with innovative delivery models of S&T to rural beneficiaries are eligible for support.
• Innovators are advised to protect their intellectual property rights by submitting provisional application before revealing details in application, essential for evaluation. For approved projects, subsequent patenting costs including international patenting in two countries are eligible for support.
• The innovations referred to TePP will be screened and evaluated as per the existing procedure.
• Canvassing in any form is liable for summarily rejection of the application.
• The decision of the Ministry will be final.
  Proposals of grass root innovators and school children are supported under NIF and not TePP.
